Building a community where every family thrives

Growing Great Kids of Southeast Nebraska

Babies don’t come with instructions, but Growing Great Kids in Southeast Nebraska does!

Growing Great Kids in Southeast Nebraska is a voluntary home visitation program for new and expectant parents. Families begin by meeting with a Growing Great Kids of Southeast Nebraska parent visitor who will discuss questions or concerns about pregnancy or a baby's first years. During the meeting, all families will receive information and learn about community resources available to new parents and are offered a free registered nurse (RN) home visit after the birth of their baby.

The RN visit offers assessment and advice for mom and baby, including ways to care for, feed and bathe a baby. The nurse is also a certified breastfeeding instructor and car seat technician and able to provide expert advice in those areas.

Based on a family's situation, some families will receive further support though home visits. If the family receives home visitations, they will receive a weekly visit to discuss baby care and development as well as parenting topics.

The program curriculum focuses on child development, health and parenting. For every three months of the child's development, there are six areas addressed:

  • Basic Care
  • Social and Emotional Development
  • Cues and Communication
  • Physical and Brain Development
  • Play and Stimulation
  • Parents' Corner

Growing Great Kids in Southeast Nebraska is made possible through generous contributions from St. Mary's Community Hospital and is coordinated through the Southeast District Health Department. For more information, call 402.274.3993 or toll free at 1.877.777.0424.
