Juvenile Diversion Services

Juvenile Diversion Services are tailored to the individual. The duration of involvement depends on the juvenile and the nature of the offense committed. The Otoe County Attorney and Juvenile Diversion Coordinator will decide to accept or reject any juveniles eligible to receive services.

Withdrawing from the program without successfully completing the requirements or failing to comply with program conditions may lead to filing criminal charges for the offense and all fees will be forfeited.

Upon successful completion of the program and its requirements, the case will not be filed.

Juvenile Diversion Eligibility

Eligibility is initially determined through the County Attorney's Office, taking into account the seriousness of the offense and record of prior offenses. Once enrolled, the Diversion Coordinator conducts a pre-class meeting with the parent and child to determine services most suitable for the juvenile. Accountability plans are established that outline all of the necessary requirements toward successful completion.

  1. Pay all program fees and restitution.
  2. Attend three-to-six class sessions - parent/guardian attendance required for some sessions.
  3. Abide by a curfew.
  4. Satisfactorily complete all required community service.
  5. Write an apology letter and complete all out-of-class assignments.
  6. Avoid all situations that may involve criminal behavior and receive no additional law violations.
  7. Attend and satisfactorily perform in school.
  8. Seek employment or become involved in some form of positive extra-curricular activity.
